As LASEMA attended 58 incidents in July, it saved 1,377 Lives with 757 Responses in 2025

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the agency saddled with the overall responsibility of coordinating emergency/disaster response in Lagos State, attended to a total of 58 incidents across the state in the month of July 2025.

This is the lowest number of incidents in a month when compared to 108 in January, 122 in February, 117 in March, 121 in April, 119 in May, and 112 incidents in June, totalling 757 incidents attended so far by the Agency in Y2025 and a total of 9,342 incidents attended by LASEMA between 1^st June 2019 and 31^st July 2025.

Analysis of the 58 emergency incidents attended in the month of July 2025 by the Agency reveals that the Road Accident category ranks highest with a record of 26 incidents, followed by 9 Medical Emergencies in second place, and 7 Other incidents in third position.

The 6 incidents recorded in the Truck/Tanker category, which comprises 5 Accidents, and 1 Broken-Down Truck, stand in the fourth position, with the 5 Fire Outbreaks in the Fire Disaster category in the fifth position, and 4 Building Collapses in the sixth position, with 1 recorded Air incident in the seventh position.

The Local Government Emergency Trends in July 2025 revealed that, of the 20 Local Governments in Lagos State, Alimosho LGA recorded the highest number of incidents of 13 out of 58 incidents, followed by Ikeja and Kosofe LGAs, which recorded 10 incidents each in second place. Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Island, and Ifako-Ijaiye LGAs recorded 3 incidents each at third place.

Epe and Shomolu LGAs recorded 2 incidents each in fourth position, Mushin, Oshodi/Isolo, Surulere, Lagos Mainland, Apapa, Ikorodu, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Areas, and Outside Lagos recorded 1 incident each in the sixth position, while Agege, Ojo, and Badagry Local Government Areas recorded no incidents during the month under review.

So far, LASEMA has attended to 757 incidents from 1^st January to 31^st July 2025. Analysis of the Monthly Emergency Trends reveals the highest number of incidents in a month was recorded in February when the Agency attended to 122 incidents, followed by 121 in April, 119 in May, 117 in March, 112 in June, 108 in January with the lowest number of incidents recorded in July, 2024, with 58 incidents.

Analysis of the 757 incidents attended so far this year according to categorisation of incidents, records show that the Road Accidents category ranks first with 253 incidents. It comprises of 244 Vehicle Accidents, 7 Breakdowns, and 2 others, while the Truck/Tanker category ranks second with 179 incidents, made up of 132 Truck Accidents, 7 Fallen Containers, 39 Broken Down Trucks, and 1 Fallen Truck/Tanker.

The Fire Disaster category ranks third with 135 incidents, which comprises 128 Fire Outbreaks, 2 Tanker/Truck Fires, 1 Ship Fire, and 4 Cars/BRT Fires, while the Medical category recorded 98 incidents comprising 2 Suicides, 2 Dead Bodies, 1 Traumatic rescue, and 93 various incidents.

58 Other incidents comprising 53 Events, 2 Well incidents, 1 Public Complaint, and 2 Assault incidents were attended by the Agency in July 2025, while the Building Collapse category, which comprises 21 Collapsed Buildings and 1 Impending Collapse, recorded 22 incidents in all.

The Explosion category recorded 7 incidents made up of 6 Gas explosions and 1 other incident, while the Air Crash/Stuck Plane and Train Accident categories have so far experienced 1 incident each, and 1 Gas and 1 Pipeline/Oil spill incidents each in the Spillage/Leakage categories, with no incidents recorded in the Marine category.

On it’s part, Annual Data of Emergencies in Local Governments reveals that out of the 757 incidents attended so far this year, Alimosho LGA, with the largest landmass and dense population, records the highest number with 116 incidents, followed by 89 incidents attended in Ikeja LGA and 87 incidents attended in Kosofe LGA, while Badagry Local Government Area recorded the least with 3 emergency incidents.

Yearly Emergency Trends in the last seven years reveal that LASEMA has attended to 9,342 incidents. This comprises 513 incidents between 1^st June to 31^st December, 2019, and 1,043 from 1^st January to 31^st December 2020, then 1,743 incidents recorded in 2021, with 1,682 incidents recorded in 2022, and 1,461 incidents in 2023, while 1,675 incidents were recorded in 2024, and 757 have so far been recorded between 1^st January and 31^st July. 2025.

The Yearly Emergency Trends Data reveals that emergency incidents peaked in Y2021 with 1,743 incidents, dropped to 1,682 in 2022, then 1,675 in 2024, with more decline as the Agency surmounts present-day challenges in emergency/disaster management, successfully moving Lagos State away from emergency response, to Disaster Risk Reduction in line with international best practices under the Governor  Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

In the conduct of it’s official mandate and effective management of “the Golden Hour” the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, successfully rescued, and saved the lives of 1,377 injured people involved in one form of emergency or road crashes in Lagos, through prompt, on-scene medical attention by it’s Pre-Hospital Care Services, between 1^st January, 2025 and 31^st July, 2025. These comprise of 561 adult males, 807 adult females, 7 male, and 2 female children.

During the month under review, LASEMA successfully rescued and saved the lives of 83 Lagos residents involved in various categories of accidents and emergencies in the state through efficient Pre-Hospital Care Services. This comprise of 34 adult males, 48 adult females and a male child. In the same month, July 2025, a total of 6 victims comprising of 5 adult males and an adult female were recovered.  While a total of 87 victims were recovered between 1^st January and 31^st July, 2025.

Records Analysis of Pre-Hospital Care Data reveals that from 1st January, 2024 to 31^st July, 2025, LASEMA rescued, treated and saved the lives of 5,550 Lagos residents involved in various categories of accidents and emergencies, while 204 were recovered in the same period of time.

Overall, from 1^st January, 2008 to 31^st July, 2025 LASEMA has attended to 13,664 incidents. Data Analysis reveals that the Agency has attended to 4,631 incidents in the Road Accidents category, 4,323 incidents in the Truck/Tanker Category. 2,617 incidents in the Fire Disaster category, 749 incidents in the Medical category, 579 Other incidents category, 469 incidents in the Building Collapse category, 155 incidents in the Spillage/Leakage category, 65 incidents in the Marine category, 52 incidents in the Explosion category, and 24 incidents in the Air and Train Accident categories.
